The Vision
Our idea was to re-purpose as many of the large boulders buried in the small rear garden area into our design. The owners were looking for a low-maintenance but visually stunning outdoor space, one that would feel like a natural extension of the adjoining, newly renovated kitchen.
Our Process
Propping up the boulders into unnatural positions allowed us to realize our vision of floating cedar wood benches and a chip rock wall featuring upright pieces of slate—perfect for leaning against. The result is artistic and convenient: the boulders function as arm rests or side tables. For the deck, we chose stained cedar. The surrounding gardens and built-in lighting enhance the ambiance of this charming organic space.
The Details
The patio and gardens, connecting directly to the kitchen, became a stop on Young Life’s Home Design and Renovation Tour.
